Changes occurring in the body can affect the composition of the blood, and certain abnormalities may produce characteristic changes in blood parameters. For this reason, a CBC is a quick and informative test that can help physicians assess a patient\u2019s general health and determine further diagnostic or treatment strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A complete blood count may also be performed as part of a routine medical examination, before certain vaccinations, or before starting treatment for a particular condition. The test can help identify potential contraindications to certain medications. For example, a significantly reduced platelet count may increase the risk of bleeding and can affect decisions regarding anticoagulant therapy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How Is Blood Collected and Is Any Preparation Required?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Blood for a complete blood count may be collected either from a finger (capillary blood) or from a vein (venous blood), depending on the laboratory method and the parameters being evaluated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For capillary blood collection, the fingertip is disinfected and punctured using a sterile lancet. A small amount of blood is then collected into an appropriate laboratory container for analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When venous blood is required, a tourniquet is usually applied to the patient\u2019s upper arm. The puncture site, typically in the area of the elbow crease, is disinfected, and blood is drawn from a vein into a special collection tube using a sterile needle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A complete blood count is a simple procedure and generally does not require extensive preparation. Depending on the laboratory requirements and other tests being performed at the same time, patients may be advised to have their blood drawn on an empty stomach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If a CBC needs to be repeated several times over a certain period, for example to monitor the effectiveness of treatment, it is advisable to perform the tests under similar conditions and, when possible, at approximately the same time of day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Complete Blood Count Parameters<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A standard complete blood count includes a number of parameters that provide information about blood cells and can help assess the patient\u2019s overall health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hemoglobin (Hb)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hemoglobin is one of the key blood parameters. It is a protein contained in red blood cells that transports oxygen from the lungs to the body\u2019s tissues and carries part of the carbon dioxide from the tissues back to the lungs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Red Blood Cells (RBC)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Red blood cells, or erythrocytes, are the most abundant blood cells. Their primary function is to transport oxygen and carbon dioxide. Hemoglobin is contained within red blood cells and is transported throughout the body by them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration (MCHC)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MCHC indicates the average concentration of hemoglobin within a given volume of red blood cells. This parameter is used together with other red blood cell indices when evaluating conditions such as anemia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reticulocytes (RTC)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reticulocytes are immature red blood cells. After being released from the bone marrow, they mature into erythrocytes. Measuring their number can help assess the activity of red blood cell production in the bone marrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Platelets (PLT)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Platelets play an essential role in blood clotting. When a blood vessel is damaged, platelets become activated and participate in the formation of a blood clot, helping to stop bleeding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Plateletcrit (PCT)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Plateletcrit represents the proportion of the total blood volume occupied by platelets. It reflects the total circulating platelet mass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The erythrocyte sedimentation rate measures how quickly red blood cells settle in a sample of anticoagulated blood over a specified period. ESR is a nonspecific marker that may change in the presence of inflammation and various other conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">White Blood Cells (WBC)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">White blood cells, or leukocytes, are an important component of the immune system. They help protect the body against infections and participate in inflammatory and immune responses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">White Blood Cell Differential<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The white blood cell differential determines the number or percentage of different types of leukocytes in the blood, including neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Neutrophils play an important role in defending the body against bacterial and fungal infections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Monocytes participate in immune defense and can engulf microorganisms, damaged cells, and cellular debris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eosinophils are involved in immune responses associated with parasites and allergic conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lymphocytes play a central role in adaptive immunity, including the recognition of antigens and the production of specific immune responses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Basophils participate in inflammatory and allergic reactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Plasma Cells<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Plasma cells are differentiated B lymphocytes responsible for producing antibodies (immunoglobulins).
