How to obtain an IVF quota in Kazakhstan: eligibility, application steps and required examinations.

IVF, or in vitro fertilization, is an assisted reproductive technology used in the treatment of infertility. Fertilization takes place outside the woman’s body, after which the embryo is transferred into the uterine cavity.
To participate in the state-funded program, you must undergo a medical examination, obtain approval from a medical commission, and join the waiting list at your place of residence.
Who can receive a quota
Eligible applicants
- Citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
- Women of reproductive age with normal somatic and endocrine status, including normal ovarian reserve.
Who cannot apply
- Unmarried women and men.
- Couples who require an IVF program using donor sperm or donor oocytes, as well as a surrogacy program.
How to apply for an IVF quota

Registration on the waiting list at the antenatal clinic at your place of residence.

Obtaining a referral from the antenatal clinic to a fertility clinic for a consultation with a reproductive medicine specialist.

Consultation with a reproductive medicine specialist and further evaluation at the fertility clinic. If no contraindications are identified, the case is reviewed by a medical commission.

Undergoing a medical commission review at the IVF clinic and receiving a protocol confirming the clinic’s approval to perform the procedure.

Submission of the approved protocol to the antenatal clinic to join the waiting list for an IVF quota.

Receiving an IVF quota.

Scheduling the IVF procedure date with a reproductive medicine specialist and registering on the “Bureau of Hospitalization” portal.

Starting the IVF program in accordance with the recommendations and requirements of the reproductive medicine specialist.
Examinations before IVF
The scope of examinations required for an IVF program was approved by the Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan under Order No. 272/2020 dated December 15, 2020.
Below is a list of examinations required for a married couple, including the validity period of each test result. Many of these examinations can be completed at your place of residence. If a result requires further clarification, the examination can be performed at the clinic’s diagnostic laboratory.
Required Examinations for Women
- General and specialized gynecological examination, including consultation with a reproductive medicine specialist.
- Pelvic ultrasound before each procedure.
- Blood group and Rh factor determination, once.
- Complete blood count, including ESR, before each procedure.
- Biochemical blood tests: ALT, AST, total bilirubin, glucose, total protein, urea, creatinine, and cholesterol; valid for 10 days.
- Coagulation tests, D-dimer, prothrombin time, thrombotest, and lupus anticoagulant; valid for 10 days.
- Urinalysis before each procedure.
- Vaginal smear for degree of purity; valid for 10 days.
- Blood tests for syphilis, HIV, hepatitis B and C; valid for 3 months.
- IgM antibodies to Chlamydia trachomatis; valid for 6 months.
- ELISA for rubella IgG and IgM antibodies; valid for 6 months.
- Cervical cytology; valid for 1 year.
- TSH, AMH, FSH, and LH; valid for 6 months.
- Prolactin; valid for 12 months.
- ECG; valid for 3 months.
- Fluorography or chest X-ray; valid for 1 year.
- A physician’s assessment confirming the patient’s ability to carry a pregnancy; valid for 6 months.
- Breast and thyroid ultrasound; valid for 1 year.
Examinations for Women, as Clinically Indicated
- Hysteroscopy with histological examination of the endometrium; assessment of the uterus and fallopian tubes by hysterosalpingography and/or laparoscopy.
- Estradiol, progesterone, cortisol, T3, T4, testosterone, DHEA, and LH on days 3–5 of the menstrual cycle; valid for 12 months.
- Karyotyping and genetic counseling, once.
- Homocysteine, cardiolipin antibodies, glycoprotein antibodies, and lupus anticoagulant; valid for 12 months.
- Tumor markers CA-125, HE4, CA 15-3, and ROMA index; valid for 6 months.
- Vitamin D; valid for 12 months.
- Microbiological examination of samples from the urethra, cervical canal, and vagina; valid for 12 months.
- Antisperm and antiphospholipid antibodies; valid for 12 months.
- PCR testing for infections; valid for 6 months.
- Ultrasound of the abdominal organs and kidneys; valid for 6 months.
- Consultations and medical opinions from relevant specialists, as clinically indicated.
Required Examinations for Men
- Blood group and Rh factor determination, once.
- Blood tests for syphilis, HIV, hepatitis B and C; valid for 3 months.
- Semen analysis, sperm morphology assessment, and MAR test; valid for 6 months.
- Consultation with a urologist-andrologist; valid for 1 year.
- ELISA for IgG and IgM antibodies to Chlamydia trachomatis; valid for 6 months.
- Microscopic examination of a urethral smear; valid for 3 months.
- Fluorography; valid for 1 year.
Examinations for Men, as Clinically Indicated
- Ultrasound of the scrotal and pelvic organs; valid for 1 year.
- LH, FSH, testosterone, prolactin, and TSH; valid for 1 year.
- Examination of prostatic secretions; valid for 3 months.
- Bacterial culture of semen or prostatic secretions; valid for 1 year.
- Karyotyping and testing for Y-chromosome AZF microdeletions, once.
- Antisperm and antiphospholipid antibodies; valid for 1 year.
- Hypo-osmotic swelling test and sperm flotation in cases of necrozoospermia.
- FISH analysis of sperm chromosomes.
- Sperm DNA fragmentation test.
- Vitamin D; valid for 1 year.
- PCR testing for infections; valid for 6 months.
- Blood tests for PSA, AFP, LDH, and hCG.
