What Are IVF Programs?

In vitro fertilization (from the Latin extra — outside, beyond, and corpus — body, meaning fertilization outside the body; abbreviated as IVF) is an assisted reproductive technology used to treat infertility. It is also commonly referred to as “in vitro fertilization” or “artificial fertilization.”

During IVF, an egg is retrieved from the woman’s ovaries and fertilized outside the body under laboratory conditions. The resulting embryo is cultured in an incubator, where it develops for 2–5 days, after which it is transferred into the uterine cavity for further development. To stimulate the growth and maturation of eggs in the ovaries, a reproductive medicine specialist uses hormonal medications.

Indications for IVF in Men

Severe asthenozoospermia (low sperm motility that does not respond to treatment)
Obstructive azoospermia (blockage of the seminal ducts)
Teratozoospermia (abnormally shaped sperm cells)
Vasectomy
Infertility that does not respond to conservative treatment
Preparation for and planned chemotherapy in the near future

Indications for IVF in Women

Absence or blockage of the fallopian tubes
Anovulation — absence of ovulation (eggs do not mature)
Endometriosis
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
Hormonal disorders
Absence of the uterus (IVF with a gestational surrogate may be used)
Fertility preservation for delayed motherhood (eggs are frozen for future use)
Preparation for and planned chemotherapy in the near future

Pre-IVF Evaluation Requirements

Below is a list of examinations required for a married couple before starting an IVF program, including the validity period of each test result. For your convenience, many of these examinations can be completed at your place of residence. If any test result requires further clarification, we recommend undergoing the relevant examination at our diagnostic laboratory.
