The Ecomed Group of Medical Companies, continuing its commitment to innovation, has introduced one of the latest and globally validated technologies in embryology — the revolutionary EMBRYOSCOPE PLUS time-lapse incubator, equipped with the latest generation of fully automated artificial intelligence technology, IDAscore.

Today, we are the only assisted reproduction center in Kazakhstan equipped with this system. This investment was a significant one: a single system of this kind costs approximately €270,000.

What Conditions Does EMBRYOSCOPE PLUS Provide for Embryo Culture?

EMBRYOSCOPE PLUS provides highly stable conditions for embryo culture. Temperature is precisely controlled through direct heating, while the air is continuously purified using HEPA/VOC filters. The built-in gas mixer makes it possible to efficiently maintain a reduced-oxygen environment.

The small incubation chambers rapidly restore optimal culture conditions after the incubator door is opened. EMBRYOSCOPE PLUS has capacity for 15 culture dishes, with up to 16 embryos in each dish.

The illumination used in the EMBRYOSCOPE PLUS time-lapse system operates outside potentially harmful wavelength ranges and exposes embryos to significantly less cumulative light energy than conventional microscopy.

Through continuous time-lapse monitoring, EMBRYOSCOPE PLUS captures images of every embryo at multiple focal planes. The system uses modulation contrast optics and displays images of each embryo individually.

This ensures exceptionally high image quality, allowing embryologists to observe the key morphological characteristics of embryos without removing them from the incubator or exposing them to unnecessary stress.

The imaging process has been validated to ensure embryo safety with regard to both light wavelength and light exposure. Image processing has also been carefully optimized to minimize data storage requirements while maintaining optimal image quality, ensuring smooth video playback.

What Can IDAscore Artificial Intelligence Do?

Several time-lapse systems have been installed in some clinics in Kazakhstan, including Primo Vision, EmbryoVisor, and Esco Miri TL. All of these systems record videos of embryo development, but they do not have the advanced artificial intelligence capabilities that assign a score to each embryo using an algorithm developed through deep learning in a neural network to predict the viability of embryos cultured in the EMBRYOSCOPE PLUS incubator.

IDAscore assigns an objective score to each embryo reflecting its implantation potential, thereby providing embryologists with effective decision support when determining which embryos should be transferred and which should be cryopreserved.

How does it work? This decision-support module evaluates embryo development using a model trained on time-lapse data from 115,000 embryos collected from 18 clinics across different continents. The dataset includes patients of different ages with known clinical outcomes following embryo transfer on both Day 3 and Day 5.

This can be compared to an embryologist evaluating a single embryo by reviewing 7,500,000 images of other embryosbefore making a decision! Clearly, such a task would be virtually impossible for a human to perform. However, it can be accomplished by the trained IDAscore artificial intelligence system.

IDAscore objectively “compares” a specific embryo with other embryos, identifies embryos with similar developmental patterns and the highest probability of implantation, and generates a score that correlates with the likelihood of implantation. No other time-lapse system has a comparable system capable of assessing embryos through Day 5 of development.

This provides another unique opportunity to improve the chances of IVF success using the latest revolutionary scientific technology, EMBRYOSCOPE PLUS, which helps address one of the most challenging aspects of an IVF program — selecting the best embryo for transfer.

We will explain the features and applications of this technology in clear and accessible language on our Instagram pages through a series of live broadcasts with our leading embryologists, as well as in dedicated Instagram posts.
